The Troy softball team is off to a spectacular 8-1 start this season, its best under head coach Eric Newell and the best start since beginning 8-1 in 2022. The Trojans entered the D1 Softball Mid-Major Rankings at No. 20 on Monday.  While the team’s offense has been electric – leading the Sun Belt Conference with 77 runs and scoring 8.56 per game – Troy’s pitching has put on a show. Last weekend, the Cardinal Clash ensued. Central Arkansas, IU Indy and Radford challenged the Trojans, and when the dust settled, the Trojans came out undefeated.  The Trojans took down Central Arkansas 8-0, beat IU Indy 11-3 and 8-0 and scraped by Radford in dramatic 2-1 walk-off fashion in the ninth inning. Troy softball dominated in the Trojan Classic this past weekend, and one of the players who led the team in its four wins was Makaley Boswell.  A junior utility player out of Geneva, Alabama, Boswell hit an even .500 on 14 plate appearances with a 1.597 OPS.
