Troy softball dominated in the Trojan Classic this past weekend, and one of the players who led the team in its four wins was Makaley Boswell.

A junior utility player out of Geneva, Alabama, Boswell hit an even .500 on 14 plate appearances with a 1.597 OPS. She was one of three Trojans to hit a home run, joined by Sophia Jenkins and Kalee Rochinski.

Makaley Boswell celebrates after reaching base over the weekend.

Her most impressive performance came Sunday against Southern, where she had two hits in three at-bats, which included two runs and a triple. Boswell ended the weekend with eight runs scored, the most for Troy and the most for a Sun Belt Conference player.

Boswell also had three perfect fielding games against Middle Tennessee, Chattanooga, and Southern. She finished with six assists and two putouts on the weekend, playing at second base, shortstop and third.

Her leadership skills both on and off the diamond have been noticed by many, including head coach Eric Newell.

“She’s such a quiet leader, but everyone loves Bos,” Newell said. “Her confidence, her as a player, the team loves her.

“They respond to her, and we need Makaley Boswell for the long haul.”

Boswell’s success from this weekend is a continuation of last year. In her sophomore season, she finished third on the team in OPS with 1.039, as well as second on the team in home runs and hits, with nine and 51 respectively.

She also finished second on the team with 13 steals and 16 multi-hit games. Most impressively, she finished tied second all-time at Troy with 53 runs in a single season.

Boswell’s freshman year showed flashes of the current team leader, with a perfect fielding percentage in 15 chances and finishing third on the team in stolen bases with seven. Her first career start occurred that year against UT-Martin, which also coincided with her first hit, walk, run and stolen base.

Prior to joining the Trojans, Boswell led Geneva High School to three state tournament appearances, which led to her being named to the all-state team three times. In her high school senior season, she scored nine home runs and 61 RBIs and was named the Dothan Eagles Super 12 Player of the Year.

Boswell and the Trojans hope to keep the momentum going into the Cardinal Clash. Game 1 of the tournament is against Central Arkansas on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.
