Oneohtrix Point Never's "Replica":
Since Oneohtrix Point Never’s (OPN) new album “Tranquilizer” is releasing tomorrow, I thought it would be a good idea to write about another album of his in anticipation. When finding an album I knew would be a good introduction to him as well as be a great listening experience in general, I looked no further than “Replica.” When I first heard “Replica” and OPN in general, it was from listening to a different album from one of his aliases. Lagoon construction enters its final stages
After nearly a year and a half of construction in the university lagoon, the project is reaching its final stages. “ Over many years, a large amount of silt settled into the lagoon, reducing its depth and hurting water clarity,” said Matt Clower, senior director of communications. “The goal of the project is to restore the lagoon, improve water quality, and beautify the surrounding area, ultimately creating a greenspace that serves both the campus and the community.” Addit

Senior Farewells: Adele Henley
The final edition is here. I can hardly believe it. This entire semester, I have struggled to come to terms with the fact that it’s time to say goodbye. On December 12, I will be a graduate of Troy University, and what an experience it has been. If I could describe Troy in one word, it would be “opportunity.” Through this school, I have learned and grown so much, through good times and bad. I’ve made so many wonderful memories with so many wonderful people, and I’m truly sad

Round and round and round, a review of Ride the Cyclone
It’s not a game; it’s a ride. Troy’s Theatre and Dance department showcased four performances of “Ride the Cyclone” last weekend, and I was fortunate enough to be able to get tickets to the sold-out show. I knew about “Cyclone” long before the showing this past weekend. My freshman year roommate introduced me to the cast recording from the official production. We saw it together on Sunday. Talk about a full circle moment, huh? For those who don’t know, “Ride the Cyclone” is

SPOILER ALERT with Jimmy Nichols
Thankful for this Tradition Thanksgiving is fast approaching, but it is typically overshadowed by Christmas. This is evident at retail stores that are starting holiday deals, radio stations that are starting to play Christmas songs and houses putting up decorations. There is nowhere that shows the shadow cast by Christmas over Thanksgiving better than in film. Hundreds of movies and specials to watch about Santa coming to town or a Hallmark movie where the big-shot corporate

Troy men’s basketball earned its biggest upset win in school history over San Diego State, 108-107 in double overtime on Tuesday night. The win marks the highest KenPom rated opponent Troy has ever beaten, as the Aztecs were No. 26. It comes after a struggling start to the six-game road trip following losses to Loyola Marymount 74-63, and a 94-85 loss to Cal State Northridge over the past week. “ We went through some adversity at [Loyola Marymount] and [CSUN].” Troy coach S

"How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents" by Julia Alvarez
Most people know the immigrant journey is one filled with ups and downs. However, it is one thing to be aware of and entirely another thing to come face to face with the emotions of such a process. “How the García Girls Lost Their Accents” (1991) is a novel by Julia Alvarez that has a clear focus on this subject. My favorite thing about this work is the subtle portrayal of traumatic repression. The story is told in reverse, following the four García sisters from adulthood to

Campbell powers Troy in big victories to start season 3-0
Troy men’s basketball is 3-0 start, partly due to the efforts of sophomore guard Cooper Campbell. On the way to beating Kent State and Furman, the Washington native averaged 20 points and 5.5 steals. Campbell’s averages landed him in the nation’s top five for several statistical categories -- he ranked first in steals with three. Campbell was second in the nation i

Psychedelic Pop as a Throughline When I was in middle school, I listened to a band called Neutral Milk Hotel by chance. When I first listened to them, I was kind of entranced by the music. At first, I had no idea what was going on, but eventually I loved their music so much I wanted to find as many acts as possible that were similar. Pretty quickly, I came across a band named “of Montreal.” Their song “Gronlandic Edit” was the first I had listened to, and I was oddly intere

Troy's Steven Cattledge banks on brotherhood and connection
It’s been said that no one's path is exactly alike, and while that’s true, linebacker Steven Cattledge and his teammate Ethan Conner are as close as it can get. “Growing up across the street from each other, [Ethan] was like another brother to me,” Cattledge said. “We didn’t have much to do back home, so all we knew was ball. “We basically grew up together.” The duo played together in their youth, went from neighbors to roommates at East Mississippi Community College. As a Future Teacher, the CHOOSE ACT is Bad for Education
Every kid gets asked the question countless times: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For me, from a young age, I knew my answer to this question was that I wanted to be a teacher. Sure, like most kids I went through the firefighter phase, the doctor phase, the mailman phase and a few others that are a little embarrassing. Eventually, however, my goal of teaching stuck with me, and I’ve been working towards it ever since. I had many amazing teachers in my local publi
