Troy football wrapped up its spring practice schedule with T-Day on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. In an offense vs. defense scrimmage, the Trojans’ offense won the scrimmage, 38-19.

While the scrimmage was not the first of the spring period, it was the only one open to the public.

“It was good for us to get out and simulate a game as much as we can without going too far,” said head coach Gerad Parker. "This is the only opportunity we'll have this spring to play in front of a crowd like this, and it was important for our guys to experience that.”

With many changes both on roster and on staff, including the addition of new offensive coordinator Adam Austin, the scrimmage allowed fans to get a first impression of what’s to come this fall.

“Our staff has gelled, our players have bought in, and there's a belief that this can be an explosive offense.” Parker said. “We've got a lot of work left, but it's been a really good start.”

T-Day was the main event of a busy schedule for Troy Athletics. The day began with the Brunch with Legends event in the stadium club. Simultaneously, the team held a youth football clinic on the field.

Prior to kickoff, the athletic department’s yard sale also took place in the concourse. The sale featured game-worn jerseys and other equipment available for purchase by fans. It also included the popular neon “Take the Stairs” sign once featured in the Troy men’s basketball locker room. The symbol of the slogan for the Scott Cross era was sold for $2,000, according to Athletic Director Kyle George.

After the scrimmage, the Troy and Louisiana baseball game began next door at Riddle-Pace Field. While Troy lost the Saturday matchup, the Trojans clinched the series the following day.

Fans were able to get the full experience of Troy athletics on Saturday and build excitement for the football season that begins on Sept 5. The Trojans will open their season against Sam Houston at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
