Students gathered in Claudia Crosby Theater to receive awards and recognition for participation in honor societies last Wednesday.

Troy University’s Honors Convocation is an annual ceremony to recognize the success and academic achievements of students and faculty throughout the year. A few weeks before the spring semester ends, the convocation allows students to celebrate their successes with their friends and family.

“We’re paying tributes to those students, whether it be in leadership, academics or service,” said Dr. Korrie Lynn Williamson, associate dean of student services. “I think it's commendable for us to pay tribute to them and congratulate them on such great success."

Many students expressed excitement about being recognized at the ceremony.

“It actually means a lot to me,” said Carmen Williams, a freshman criminal justice major from Montgomery, Alabama. “It makes me feel great that not only do I see how much hard work I put in, but you guys see it.

“That really just made me the happiest person alive.”

Alongside many student recognitions, Dr. Palmer also highlighted the importance of acknowledging faculty success.

“I think another special moment was to announce the Ingles Award winner, and to introduce Dr. Farrell, the Malone winner,” said Dr. Kerry Palmer, senior vice chancellor and provost. “They exemplify everything right about our faculty, and I just love that.”

The event brought students from all parts of Troy to be celebrated, including honor society members, department award winners, the Jazz Choral Choir and Greek life.

"We would just like to congratulate the students that we honored today, and their professors, and we are so honored to have them as a part of our university. We appreciate them, and we look forward to the great things they'll do when they graduate."
