After dropping its opening match to the Murray State Racers, Troy soccer got in the win column with a 3-1 win over the Alcorn State Braves.
“For us, it was a very gritty performance dealing with the blazing heat on the turf,” said Head Coach Stuart Gore. “We’re off and running.”

Megan Hamm prepares to kick the ball during a 2024 match.
After losing a shutout to begin the season, the Trojans scored their first goal and drew first blood against the Braves by way of a header from East Carolina transfer Elsa Stedman, her second career goal and first as a Trojan. Steadman’s header also gave Megan Hamm her first career assist.
Hamm led the Trojans in shots against Murray State with four.
The Trojans lead would be short lived, as the Braves would score in the 27th minute to even the score at 1-1.
Trojan captain Jiselle Daniels would give Troy the lead going into halftime after capitalizing off a Grace DeShetler pass in the 43rd minute. The goal gave DeShetler her first career assist.
Daniels wouldn’t stop there, as she would score only five minutes into the second half off an Alaina Uncapher assist to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead that they would finish the match with.
Uncapher, a Bowling Green transfer who plays forward, logged her first assist in a Troy uniform after finishing last season with two.
Daniels’ two goal game is her first career multi-goal game and the first multi-goal game for Troy since Dolce Villaflor scored two goals in a 4-1 win over Alabama State on Sept. 23, 2023.
Alcorn State had only one shot on goal in the second half, which was thwarted by goalkeeper Taylor Richards.
Next up, the Trojans head back home to play their first two home matches of the season against Southeastern Louisiana and Spring Hill. The Trojans will kick off against Southeastern Louisiana Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
