This past week, the Troy track and field squads headed to Gainesville, Florida, to compete with some of the best at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. The team broke three program records at the event.

The Trojans had a hard matchup upcoming, as they faced multiple Power Four teams such as Miami, Florida, UCF and Florida State. Despite going against some Power Four competition, a few Trojans entered the record books.

Ethan Forbes was one of those who made history, taking first place in the men’s 800m contest and surpassing Chance Armstrong’s 2023 time of 1:53.66 for the best indoor 800m time in Troy history.

Jonas Kotuernka broke his own record. He finished 6th in the 1000m with a time of 2:25.35 compared to his previous record of 2:30.16.

On the women’s side, Rachel Whyte’s 6th place finish in the 300m with a time of 38.57 shattered Precious Ogba’s 2019 record of 39.41. Hayley Wilson rounded out the Trojans with a 4th place finish in the women's 800m with a time of 2:12.94.

The Trojans are looking to travel to Clemson, South Carolina, to take on the Orange and Purple Invitational as the indoor season continues. The event will be the first of two straight in Clemson and will begin on Jan. 23 and run through Jan. 24.
