The Troy soccer team carried the momentum from its victory against Alcorn State into the first weekend homestand of the 2025 campaign. After dispatching Southeastern Louisiana 3-0 on Friday, the Trojans did the same to the Spring Hill Badgers on Sunday – moving their record to 2-0 when playing at the Troy Soccer Complex.

The win on Sunday was the team’s third straight win, and the Trojans celebrated Fan Day after the match. However, Sunday also served as the day freshman forward Kelsey Barrett scored her first goal as a Trojan.

Barrett’s historic day started in the 26th minute, when she assisted Alaina Uncapher on her first career Troy goal. Barrett found the back of the net during the 62nd minute of action, marking her first career collegiate goal. The forward finished the day with three shots -- making her one attempt on goal -- and an assist.

Kelsey's goal is why we recruited her,” head coach Stuart Gore told Troy Athletics.  She has this ability where the ball is velcroed to her foot.

“She took it off her face and she couldn't close her jaw at the end of it, and to ride that and get the shot away was fantastic,"

The Tampa, Florida, native moved into elite company as she became the first freshman since Kendra Cashion to record a goal and assist in the same match – Cashion accomplished this in 2018 against Ole Miss. Barrett also became the first Trojan to record an assist and goal in the same match since Riley Rojahn conquered the task in 2023 against Alabama State.

Following Sunday’s action, the Trojans have scored three goals in three straight games for the first time since 2014. Troy also held Spring Hill without a shot on goal. 2023 was the last time Troy held a team without a shot on goal.

Troy’s three game win streak will be put to the test in midweek action when they take on the North Alabama Lions at the Cox Creek Sports Complex. Action is set to kick off Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. The matchup will be available for streaming via ESPN+.
