Daniels fuels Trojans in victory

Troy soccer opened its 2025 season with two matches on the road. The Trojans avenged their season-opening loss to Murray State by dispatching Alcorn State 3-1.

Leading the Trojans past the Braves was senior and team captain Jiselle Daniels. The forward secured her first career multi-goal match in the victory, marking her second and third goals while donning the Power T. She played all 90 minutes of game action. 

“For us, it was a very gritty performance dealing with the blazing heat on the turf,” head coach Stuart Gore told Troy Athletics. “We're off and running.” 

Daniels’ first goal came in the 43rd minute of action on an assist from Grace DeShetler –  DeShetler’s first career assist.  

Shortly after returning from half-time, Daniels struck gold again, this time assisted by Alaina Uncapher – Uncapher now has her first assist in a Troy uniform. The south New Jersey native is the first Trojan to have a multi-goal performance since Dolce Villaflor in 2023, when Troy defeated Alabama State 4-1. 

In an injury-shortened 2024, Daniels became a captain and leader for the Trojans. She ended the season with 30 shots and 12 shots on goal – leading the team and placing top 10 in the conference in both categories.  

Last season was also when the forward recorded career highs in both shots and shots on goal against Coastal Carolina. While celebrating her birthday, Daniels took six shots and three shots on goal. She secured her first goal as a Trojan, nailing the game-winner to give Troy a 1-0 win.  

“It was great to see Jiselle get her first Troy goal and on her birthday too,” Gore said. 

Daniels and the Trojans look to build on the recent win when they return to the Troy Soccer Complex Friday, Aug. 22. There, they will welcome in the Southeastern Louisiana Lions to open two match homestand. The match time is set for 6 p.m. and admission to the Troy Soccer Complex is free for all home games.
