The Troy baseball team added a new transfer from just down the road to the roster. In an era when college athletes are constantly on the move, it’s common to see players leave home for new campuses and new opportunities.
The transfer from Enterprise State Community College and Pike Road, Alabama, native Jabe Boroff didn’t have to go far from home to take his next step in his career.

Jabe Boroff dashes home during a fall ball game against Kennesaw State.
“I had three offers coming out of my senior year,” Boroff said. “All three were junior colleges and I ended up going to ESCC, which is just down the road.”
But Boroff’s path from high school to Troy looked different than most. Prior to his senior year, Boroff had an injury that required surgery and led to him taking the designated hitter position his senior year.
“I have mixed emotions about it,” Boroff said. “At the time I was upset and started losing interest from colleges, but I think God has a plan and I am very thankful for my journey and going to play junior college.”
Although the route of junior college wasn’t the plan for Boroff, the lessons he learned from the coaches and players are ones he is still reminded of today.
“They molded me into a great man, more so than just baseball,” Boroff said. “If anyone knows junior college, they know it is a grind.
“You learn to be grateful for what you have and it teaches you to work hard and strive to be better.”
During his time at ESCC, Boroff took home Alabama Community College Conference Triple Crown in both of his seasons.
He finished his first year hitting .445 with a .555 on-base percentage. His second year, Boroff hit .452 with a .645 on-base percentage and 20 home runs. He also was named ACCC Player of the Year and added to the ACCC All-Conference team.
Through these awards, Boroff has kept one thing in mind, playing for his team.
“The accolades are great,” Boroff said. “But if you play for your team and you want your team to succeed those accolades will come.
“I don’t really think about myself but work for the success of the team and whatever happens will happen.”
Despite his accomplishments at ESCC, Boroff was looking for something bigger. Little did he know his new home would only take him 45 minutes away to Troy University. The team stood out to him in many ways, but the culture was the draw to his commitment.
“I love the coaching staff and the culture,” Boroff said. “When I came on my visit, Steve Meier came and talked to me.
“He does a great job of holding the standard of this program and I think those are the biggest things for me. The coaching staff, how welcoming they are and how big their drive is to upgrade this program is something I wanted to be a part of.”
At Troy, Boroff is looking to succeed with his team at the highest level like he has done throughout his junior college career.
“We want to go to a regional, host a regional and go to a super regional,” Boroff said. “Our goal is to get to Omaha and whatever it takes to do that.”
