Trojans finish 11th out of 16 teams in DeBary, Florida, placing behind two Sun Belt Conference teams

The Troy women’s golf team kicked off its spring season with an 11th place finish at the Babs Steffens Invitational in DeBary, Florida. The Trojans placed ahead of five teams, including Southern Illinois, Bryant and Le Moyne.

The host, Stetson, won the tournament with a score of 15-over. Sun Belt Conference foe Appalachian State placed second at 25-over and fellow conference team Georgia State was in sixth at 77-over.

As a team, the Trojans sat at 94-over. Round three was Troy’s best day, as it shot 305 at DeBary Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

The Trojans were led by Manya Saini, who finished tied for 30th place at 21-up. She shot 78 all three rounds to lead Troy.

Constanza Quiroga finished second on the team at 23-over, boosting the Trojans from 12th to 11th place after carding a 74 in the third round, the team’s best individual round. She had two birdies on Tuesday to shoot 3-over.

Third on the team was Victoria Stutts, who shot 240 over the event. After shooting 7-over in the first round, she bounced back from a 13-over second round to card another 7-over round on day three. She placed 44th overall.

Senior Laura Fangmeyer placed tied for 47th in the event, improving every round to finish at 241. She started out with an 84, then shaved off a few strokes to get to 81 and improved even further to get down to a 76 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, sophomore Mathilda Ringblom rounded out Troy’s lineup in a tie for 74th place. She finished with a total score of 255, but logged a birdie during Tuesday’s round.

The Trojans continue their season at the Chris Bannister Invitational from Mar. 8 to Mar. 10. The event is hosted by Jacksonville State and is played at RTJ Silver Lakes in Anniston, Alabama.
