Women's Golf secures top 10 finish at Lady Red Wolves Classic

Two Trojans finish in the top 10 as Tankersley makes collegiate debut against Sun Belt Conference competition

Two Trojans finished in the top 10 as the Troy women’s golf team competed at the Lady Red Wolves Classic. The Trojans finished ninth as a team, and its 42 team birdies were tied for second in the field. 

Troy faced off against competition from the Sun Belt Conference and beyond, including ULM, Arkansas State, Memphis, UAB, Samford and more. ULM finished first at the event with a total score of 19-under. 

Victoria Stutts led the Trojans, finishing tied for sixth place at the event. She finished 3-under for the event and shot even-par on Tuesday to close it out. 

Costanza Quiroga continued her stellar freshman campaign, finishing in 10th place overall. She carded a staggering nine birdies in the first two rounds and recorded a 2-under score in round two. She finished one stroke behind Stutts. 

Making her collegiate debut, Evelyn Tankersley recorded 11 birdies over three rounds. She finished tied for 45th place with a total score of 7-over. A Montgomery, Alabama, native, Tankersley was the No. 4 ranked player in Alabama coming out of high school. 

Katelynn Altese finished fourth on the team, shooting 20-over. Her 5-over second round was her strongest outing of the event. 

Rounding out Troy’s lineup was Mathilda Ringblom, who finished 101st overall. She carded four birdies in round two and finished 38-over. 

The Trojans are set to close out an up and down fall season – including a first place event finish at the Velvet Classic – starting next week.  

Troy travels to West Point, Mississippi, to compete at The Ally, held by Mississippi State. The event starts on Monday, Oct. 20 and runs through Wednesday, Oct. 22.
