This week Troy will pay a visit to the Georgia Southern Eagles at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia on Thursday, Oct. 30.

Troy suffered a tough loss against in-state rival South Alabama last week by a score of 27-13, but still has to look forward to try and put up a fight against Georgia Southern.

The Eagles are 6-2 (5-0 Sun Belt) and are first in current Sun Belt standings after stomping Georgia State last week 69-31.

Georgia Southern is averaging nearly 45 points per game while the Trojans only average about 19 points.

The Eagles are also deadly when it comes to the running game and Troy has struggled to stop the run game all season.

“They are very good and we have got to compete with them,” head football coach Larry Blakeney said.

Nobody in the Sun Belt conference has been able to take down Georgia Southern, but Troy has a shot to do it on television on Thursday night.

A great week of preparation and lots of focus are only a couple of the components that Troy needs to defeat the best team in the conference.

Redshirt freshman defensive end Jamal Stadom is one of the young guys on Troy’s defense who will have to step up and help stop the powerful run game of Georgia Southern.

Stadom has been a part of 40 tackles this season, including four tackles for a loss and two fumble recoveries.

Troy’s offense needs to be operating at full force on Thursday night also for the Trojans to have an opportunity to win this week

Redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon Silvers came out near the end of the South Alabama game with a sore back and will need to be healthy against the Eagles to help give Troy a chance.

The Trojans will also have to keep the penalties to minimum this week. They had 10 penalties for a total of 100 yards against them at South Alabama which took away many opportunities for Troy.

This week will take a team effort and hard work to come home with a victory over Georgia Southern.
