After getting back on track with a two-match win streak -- scoring a combined three goals and only conceding one across all three matches -- Troy soccer took down the Southern Lady Jaguars 2-1 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, en route to continuing their hot streak.After taking down Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana, the Trojans capped off their Louisiana road trip less than an hour and a half north of Thibodaux in Baton Rouge as they took down the Lady Jaguars.
Leah Crotty started the match with her second career goal, and first goal as a Trojan, after transferring from Illinois State. Crotty scored in the 14th minute off an assist by Olivia Simpson, marking her fourth career assist and her first of the season. Simpson also tied her career high in shots taken with two.
The Trojans conceded a goal in the 33rd minute before Delaney Wells scored her second goal of the season. Her penalty kick proved to be the match winner for the Trojans, capitalizing off a penalty committed by the Lady Jaguars in the 69th minute.
Wells now leads the Trojans in goals with two on the season and ha taken 11 shots.
Troy recorded 11 shots as a team and tied its season high of six shots on goal.
Trojan goalkeeper Une Georgsen recorded three saves, starting the second half in goal while redshirt freshman Isabella Tomeo made her first career start in goal in the first half.
The Trojans also swept the Lady Jaguars in corner kicks, earning nine while holding Southern to zero.
The Trojans look to continue their hot streak to close out conference play Thursday at 6 p.m. as they travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jacksonville Dolphins at Southern Oak Stadium.
