The Troy soccer team has a new head coach – Jake Wymann. Over the break, Athletics Director Kyle George announced the Trojans would be poaching Wymann from Montevallo.
“Coach Wymann is known as an exceptional leader,” said Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., in a Troy Athletics press release. “He brings a championship-winning mentality rooted in discipline, and I am confident he will bring unprecedented success to our soccer program.”
During seven seasons with the Falcons, Wymann proved he’s a winning coach with three NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back berths in the past two seasons. Overall, the Bradenton, Florida, native put together a 78-36-17 record at Montevallo.
“I am truly honored to be part of such an incredible university,” Wymann said in a Troy Athletics press release. “I’m so excited to get on campus, start working with the team and coaching them.
“Morgan and I are humbled beyond words about joining the Troy family and are ready to get stuck into it.”
In a competitive Gulf South Conference, Wymann boosted the Falcons to a high level of success. Montevallo’s three NCAA Tournament appearances were their first postseason berths since 2008.
Additionally, 21 players earned All-Gulf South selections and 16 garnered all-region distinctions under Wymann. Wymann had six winning seasons at Montevallo, the most by any coach in program history.
“Jake is an extremely talented recruiter with a proven track record of success in our state,” George said in a Troy Athletics press release. “With a championship pedigree and proven success in the postseason, I have no doubt that Coach Wymann will take our program to new heights.
“The future is incredibly bright under his leadership, and he will be an incredible coach and mentor to our student-athletes.”
In 2019, Wymann led the Falcons to a Gulf South Championship, Montevallo’s first in 12 years. With a 10-2-1 conference record, the Falcons etched a new high-water mark for conference wins into the record books. Wymann earned a Gulf South Coach of the Year award for the performance.
A hallmark of Wymann’s teams at Montevallo is strong defense – the Falcons logged 11 shutouts in 2023, allowing the fewest goals in program history with 15.
Wymann will look to lead the Trojans to success, with the 2026 season starting in August.
