The Troy men’s tennis team locked in their first home and spring season win this past Friday against the AUM Warhawks. The Trojans secured two wins in 4-0 fashion.

The trio of sophomores Ausias Martin Melo, Hiro Sakamoto and Thiago Drozdowski all had successful matches in singles play during the first match, with them all resulting in a victory. Melo defeated AUM’s Guiseppe Bonaiuti 6-0, 6-4. Sakamoto took down Guill Sanchez 6-1, 6-4. Finally, Drozdowski closed the wins off, topping Lucas Rosvall 6-2, 6-1.

Troy kicked off the afternoon match by taking the doubles point yet again, with Yeray Andres Pastor and Miyazato earning a 6-3 win before Drozdowski and Stephan Tavares Noale iced the point with a 6-2 victory.

The Warhawks fought hard, yet by the start of the second sets of singles matches AUM ultimately decided to forfeit the match. The Trojans ultimately won the match with Henrique de Brito, Miyazato and Sakamoto holding one-set leads.

Due to weather, Troy’s doubleheader against West Alabama has been postponed. The Trojans hit the road next for a tilt against Kennesaw State on Feb. 7.
