Trojans fall to No. 22 Florida State, take on Miami during trip south

The Troy men’s tennis team opened its spring season this past Sunday in Florida. The Trojans faced the No. 22 Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes.

Against the Seminoles, the Trojans fell 4-0. With the doubles matches, Florida State obtained two wins on both courts one and two. The Trojan pair of junior Luciano Alcocer and sophomore Thiago Drozdowski earned a 6-3 win on court three, but ultimately dropped the doubles point.

In the singles matches, Florida State snagged three quick wins to take control and win the match. While in Florida, the Trojans will stay to later match up against the Miami Hurricanes.

Despite the early loss to Florida State, the Trojans are confident in their spring season.

The Trojans ended their fall season at the ITA Sectional Championships led by the doubles pair of Alcocer and Yeray Andres Pastor, who previously won against Auburn’s top-seeded duo.

Fall singles play was led by Drozdowski, as he had five wins throughout his tournament play. Sophomore Hiiro Sakamoto was named the 2025 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year due to his outstanding 26-7 overall record.

The Trojans will have 14 home matches at the Lunsford Tennis Complex this season. The first home match will take place on Jan. 23, a doubleheader against Auburn University of Montgomery at 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m. The Trojans' first Sun Belt Conference match will also be a home match against Louisiana on Mar. 8 at 10 a.m.
