Students support philanthropy by participating in a pre-Walk Hard

ATO brothers hold signage representing sponsors.
Alpha Tao Omega kicked off “Girls Walk Harder” on the quad on March 12.
The event was a precursor to “Walk Hard,” where the fraternity walked 128.3 miles to Panama City Beach, Florida, over Spring Break. The goal of the walk was to raise funds and awareness for veterans.
President of Alpha Tao Omega, Ben Hollensworth, a junior majoring in exercise physiology from Mobile, Alabama, elaborated what the walk was about.
“Girls Walk Harder is something we do to raise awareness around Troy,” Hollensworth said.
“We do a six-mile walk, starting at Troy’s quad, and we end up at the square downtown.
“For this event, we open it up to the girls. A lot of sorority girls take part; some moms do too.
It’s a great way to get the community involved.”
Lily Givens, a Prattville, Alabama native and a junior hospitality major, commented on the importance of supporting philanthropies around campus.
“I think it’s important for everyone, not just in Greek life, to support one another,” Givens said. “I really hope all my sorority sisters take away the importance of why we choose philanthropy.
“We each have a philanthropy that is important to us, and it’s important to support and understand one another’s philanthropy.”
After two hours of walking around Troy, the participants safely arrived at the square.
