It’s camp season here in Troy as the Trojans have kicked off their fall camp for the 2025 season. From July 30 to August 16, the Troy football team is scheduled to endure 11 practices and a scrimmage. The goal of fall camp is to work the team into game shape in preparation for their season opener.

"Everything we've done since January has been intentional and has a direct correlation to something we will do in fall camp to ensure our entire operation is prepared to take the field on August 30,” head coach Gerad Parker told Troy Athletics.

While students returned home for the summer months, the Trojans were hard at work in both the weight and meeting rooms. Although the Trojans wrapped up the 2024 season with an 4-8 overall record, three of their wins came in the last four games – many members returned for the 2025 season.

Last year’s team was compiled of young talent, but this year’s team took a big step in the veteran department, adding 21 transfers to a team that returned most of its core.

“This has got to be a self-led team, and we’ll get it there, but you can tell there’s a huge difference from where we were a year ago,” Parker said following the first day of camp.

Both sides of the ball are looking to put 2024 in the rear view and embrace the challenges of 2025. Many players are looking to step into their own while others are looking to begin writing their Troy legacy.

“[I’ve seen] a group that’s wanting to prove who they are,” said Defensive Coordinator Dontae Wright following the third day of camp. “We’ve got a great group of veteran guys that are leading and controlling the pace of things, and they know what it takes to be great.”

As camp wraps up, the team will begin to focus their attention on their first opponent of the year: Nicholls State. Troy holds a 4-1 record against the Colonels entering their 2025 matchup. The season opener marks the first time the Trojans will share the field with Nicholls since their 2001 matchup when Troy secured a 26-0 victory.
