Troy men’s basketball is 3-0 start, partly due to the efforts of sophomore guard Cooper Campbell. Campbell was named the Sun Belt Conference’s inaugural Player of the Week following two 20-point performances. On the way to beating Kent State and Furman, the Washington native averaged 20 points and 5.5 steals.
Campbell’s averages landed him in the nation’s top five for several statistical categories -- he ranked first in steals with three. Campbell was second in the nation in three pointers made with eight. His 20 points per game, 57.1 three-point percentage and 5.5 assists per game landed him in third place.
"Cooper is extremely deserving of this honor," said head Scott Cross. "I don't think that he could have played any better in our two big road wins against College Insider Preseason Top 25 Mid-Major teams.”
Campbell opened the 2025 campaign by filling up the stat sheet against Kent State. Troy was led to overtime by his game-tying field goal as time expired – Campbell scored seven points in the bonus frame. He dropped 20 points to go along with six assists and eight rebounds.
He followed that performance up by setting a career high in points against Furman.
Campbell scored 21 points, alongside three steals and assists respectively. He again played closer for the Trojans as he racked up a steal and lay-in late in the game to push Troy past the Paladins.
“He was good on offense, as the stat sheet showed, but he was also really good on defense too," Cross said.
Campbell concluded the week by scoring 10 points and racking up eight assists as Troy rolled past Pensacola Christian College. He was also active on the defensive end, securing three steals and two defensive rebounds.
Campbell will be leading the Trojans on a six-game road trip as they head towards conference play. Their near two-week road trip begins with Troy travelling to Los Angeles, California, to take on Loyola Marymount College on Friday, Nov. 14. Troy won’t be welcomed back into Trojan Arena until Dec. 1, when it plays host to the West Georgia Wolves.
