Troy’s National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations put together a tailgate on the Shackleford Quad Saturday afternoon for the Homecoming football game.
The music was curated by DJ Redd and DJ Cree.
“I came out to have a good time and enjoy my subordinates,” said Kendrell Corbitt, a freshman physical therapy major from Hayden, Alabama. “I got to show love for the school and see Troy students have fun.”

Not only were students invited and present to enjoy the celebration; a great number of alumni were also in attendance for the fun.
“I come back almost every year since 2015, but even prior to that, I came back most years,” said Troy 1989 Alumna Kyna McCall-Paster, a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. member of the fall 1986 chapter. “I just love coming back to see everybody that I graduated with or went to school with, so it's just so much fun.
“Back then, Troy was a much smaller community for the Black community, so we're closer as a family since a lot of us knew a lot of each other. It's kind of like coming back home for a family reunion.”
People made connections while enjoying the food that was served and dancing to some music.
“It's been a pleasure to be in the process of just learning how everything is organized and came about, so I most definitely enjoy the environment,” said Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Vice Polemarch Xavier Harris, who is a junior general business major from Wetumpka, Alabama. “In Greek Life, I feel like learning from others that cross before you is very important.
“They teach you things that you're supposed to know in the chapter, so everybody here has had a part in Homecoming, and I’m learning what I'm supposed to do, and I execute it.”
Everyone at the event made sure it was a fun, safe and positive experience.
“It is amazing that our closeness with the community has endured the test of time, and we're lifelong friends, family and community,” said Troy 1988 Alumna Gwendolyn Unoko-Ellis, a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. member of the fall 1985 chapter. “We celebrate each other and our successes, and we support each other when there’s grief, so it's all just the act of love.
“Whenever I come back, I just look forward to seeing people who I’ve made memories with, reminiscing, the hugs you can't beat and people always remembering something from our journey together.”
