Troy Delight Ministries held a craft night last Thursday for women looking for a community to join. The event offered three different craft tables to join: origami garland, glassware painting and fabric bookmarks.
“This was just one of our Thursdays we had open for events during the semester,” said Emma Mitchell, a senior psychology major from Birmingham, Alabama, who serves as co-team director for Delight Ministries. “We had never done a craft night before but decided it would be a fun event, especially with midterms coming around.
“It’s just to have a night for our girls and the community the chance to not only do something together, but to take something home and have that memory.”
Delight Ministries is a ministry for college-age women. The group is generally a Bible study, but they are open to any women who want to come and join the community.
“We have a big emphasis on Bible study and community fellowship,” said Auni Shema, a junior hospitality, tourism and event management major from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, who also serves as the events coordinator for Delight. “For example, we do Delight dates, so every two weeks, there’s a form sent out and you get paired with other Delight girls.”
“I think there’s something so cool about being able to relate to sisters in Christ,” said Jessica Fleischmann, a junior graphic design major from Birmingham, Alabama, who also serves as co-team leader of Delight. “You can bring whatever is going on in your life, and girls just get it. It’s just a safe place for us to be able to love each other and lift each other up.”
Delight Ministries came to Troy’s campus five years ago in the fall of 2021. The goal in opening this chapter was to create a space for women on campus where they could be able open up to one another.
The organization is a fully student-ran organization.
“Some of our biggest goals in any event we do is just to open up space for girls on campus to meet people and find that community, but also just have a place where they have the opportunity to be vulnerable and open up to people,” Mitchell said.
Delight holds many events throughout the semester, with its big fundraiser being a thrift pop-up on the quad. While this has passed, the members have many more events coming up, including a PowerPointnight and a yoga night.
Delight Ministries meets every Thursday evening in Hawkins 107. To stay up to date on details about upcoming events, follow @delight_troyu on Instagram.
