After finishing his first season as a professional basketball player, former Troy men’s basketball guard Aamer Muhammad returned to his alma mater over the summer.
“It’s always great coming back here,” Muhammad said. “It’s always nice seeing the coaching staff, seeing the new players that are coming around, seeing old faces and just talking about memories and reliving those memories through conversation.”
After finishing his time in Troy, Muhammad signed with BC Barsy in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, where he was named First Team All-Kazakhstan and First Team All-Import.
“Navigating around and trying to figure out how to adapt to this new environment was fun for me because I’m always adapting to different environments,” Muhammad said. “I really had a lot of help from my teammates that were still there.
“Some of them spoke a little English so it was kind of easy to communicate with those guys.”

According to Eurobasket, Muhammad averaged 21.4 points, 6.4 assists and 2.3 assists in 19 games with BC Barsy last season. He set the tone for the season with a 38-point outburst in his debut, pouring in eight rebounds and five assists.
While Muhammad was in Kazakhstan, his former teammates brought a Sun Belt Conference title and March Madness berth to Troy for the first time since 2017.
“The run that they went on was just magnificent to hear and watch because it was practically the same team from the previous year,” Muhammad said. “It was just super cool seeing those guys being able to hoist that trophy and bring one home to Troy.”
In May, Muhammad announced that he would be leaving Kazakhstan and signing with KK Radnicki in Serbia.
“I’m really excited,” Muhamad said. “I’ve been hearing a lot about how you need to be ready by this time because it’s no joke out there.
“They really compete, and they really love basketball. It’s the heart of what they love to watch and experience out there.”
Muhammad and KK Radnicki will begin their season in October.
