Women’s tennis topples rival UAB, 5-2

The Troy University women’s tennis team won its matchup against UAB 5-2.

 

The Trojans’ (6-3) win against the in-state rival came at home on Saturday, Feb. 27.

 

Troy’s line one doubles, sophomore Jiayuan Xue, put up a good fight in her match against junior Pardis Kianoush, but came up short. Xue lost the match 7-6, 4-6, 1-0.

 

Freshman Hannah Seizer had a match, but she pulled through. She won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 against UAB’s line two doubles, senior Elaine Simon.

 

Sophomore Sanae Ohta dropped her first set 4-6 against junior Catherine Ragon, but won her second and third sets easily at 6-2, 6-1.

 

Sophomore Efriliya Herlina’s match was much like the first three singles matches. She won her match 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 against freshman Sophie Dodds.

 

Sophomore Nancy Karaky had an easier time winning line five singles. She won her match against freshman Reghan Lynch 6-3, 6-2.

 

Freshman Luisa Ferrauti’s match was much of the same, as she won 6-1, 6-2 against senior Amy Lowther.

 

Junior Alicia Rodriguez and freshman Tereza Melicharkova dropped their  doubles match, 6-0 against Kianoush and Simon.

 

Xue and Herlina had a better match against Dodds and Lynch, winning 6-4.

 

Ohta and Karaky had a bit of a tough match, grinded out 7-5 against Ragon and Lowther.

 

Troy’s next match will be in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, against Mercer on Sunday, March 6.
