Troy women’s tennis moved to 2-1 on the season following its victory over the Bethel Wildcats – their best start to the season since the 2023-24 spring season.
The Trojans welcomed fans to the Lunsford Tennis Complex by claiming victories on every court resulting in the final score of 7-0. This match marks the beginning of a short homestand for the Trojans.
Action began with the Trojans securing the doubles point. The first victory of the day came as Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate bested the Bethel duo of Manuela Geraissati and Giada Meneguzzo, 6-0. To officially secure the doubles point, the duo of Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo defeated Cami Barragan Canas and Claudia Gonzalez Pastrana, 6-1.
Troy carried its winning ways into singles play as they were victorious in every match via straight sets. Sama Hindawy and Hiba Heni both won without giving up a point, 6-0 in both sets. Alexia Zarate also claimed victory, only relenting a single point game, 6-1 followed by 6-0.
After Zarate officially claimed victory for the Trojans, Leena Metwally took the court against Cloe Casado. Metwally’s victory came via a 6-1 score in both sets. Maria Guirguis followed suit by dispatching Cami Canas, 6-3 and 6-0.
Valeriia Aveedva was tested in her two-set match against Sofia Canto. Canto would not relent in set one, forcing Avdeeva to post seven points to claim victory, 7-5. There was more of the same in set two, but Avdeeva proved to be too much and secured the victory 6-4.
The Trojans look to improve their home and season records as they will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 7 as they welcome the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M into the Lunsford Tennis Complex. Live stats will be available as action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
Looking ahead to their next matches, the Trojans will take a road trip to Florida. Their trip begins with a showdown against the Rattlers of Florida A&M on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. . Troy is set for action against the Florida Gators on Friday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.
