Women’s golf ties for fifth overall in Columbia

The Troy women’s golf team tied for fifth place out of 15 teams overall at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Missouri.

 

The Trojans finished 17 shots behind the host Missouri Tigers, who claimed first place, and 290-295-296 over the course of three rounds.

 

Troy senior Fátima Fernández Cano was the highest-placing Trojan in the tournament, as she tied for second place with a 3-under 216 score. Cano shot a 5-under 72 in the first round with five birdies and an eagle, but followed with a 71-75 performance over the final two rounds to wrap up the tournament.

 

Following Cano’s strong performance were sophomores Bianca Lohbauaer and Lindsey Harrison, who shot 78-72-74 and 72-79-73, respectively. They each carded 8-over 216, placing them in a tie for 39th place.

 

Seniors Gabi Oubre and Becca Horner rounded out the lineup for the Trojans, with Oubre finishing in a tie for 45th and Horner in a tie for 54th. Oubre shot a consistent 77-75-74 and Horner shot a 74-77-77.

 

Troy will look ahead to the next tournament as they travel to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, to take part in the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by Charleston Southern. The three-day tournament is set to begin on October 23.
