An experienced Troy women’s golf team stayed consistent throughout the weekend at the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee, Florida. The Trojans finished 11th out of 12 teams in a field that included Florida State, Illinois, Virginia and Alabama.
Troy’s best performance as a team came on the last day of the event, Monday, when the Trojans shot 303, 13 over par. The outing proved to be a bounce-back performance from a 313 Saturday showing and a 307 Sunday finish.
Freshman Constanza Quiroga once again led the Trojans, finishing in a tie for 27th with a score of 226 when everything was all said and done. She has now led Troy in five of nine events played in the spring season.
Junior Manya Saini came in just one stroke behind Quiroga, ending the three-day event with a score of 227, earning herself a tie for 31st. Saini started the event off with her best performance of the year, going 1-over par to cap day one while finishing with an equally respectable 4-over on day three.
Senior Laura Fangmeyer found consistency and comfort over the weekend, finishing 7-over on Saturday before cutting the gap down to 5-over on Sunday and 4-over on Monday. The result was enough to land Fangmeyer in 48th.
Behind her came another senior in Victoria Stutts, who took home sole possession of 66th place. After a rough first day that saw Stutts finish with 88, the senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, got back into rhythm, finishing with 80 and 77 in the next two days.
Freshman Evelyn Tankersley finished one place behind Stutts, rounding out the Trojans with a final score of 247 in her first event of the spring season. The local golfer, from Montgomery, Alabama, had her best day on Saturday when she ended the round with a score of 81.
The Troy women’s golf team next returns to competition against a familiar Sun Belt foe when the Trojans travel to Monroe, Louisiana, for the ULM Invitational on March 30 and 31.
