Women’s golf earns second-place finish

The Troy women's golf team traveled to Huntsville, Alabama where they came back on the third day of the three-day invitational to finish second in the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate.

The Trojans started day one finishing third in the team standings, just one shot behind Oakland in second. and nine shots behind Lipscomb.

Alyssa Mercado led the Trojans with 70 shots, tying her for second on the day in the individual standings. Behind Mercado was Manya Saini, tied for 15th after day one, and Bruna Roqueta, tied for 23rd.

Day two saw Troy fall a place into a three-way tie for fourth place in the team standings, scoring 609. Tennessee Tech and Samford were the other two teams with 609. The Trojans score put them three shots behind Jacksonville in third and 24 shots behind first place Lipscomb.

Mercado continued to lead the way for the Trojans on day two, scoring a 78 which bumped her total to 148, enough to get her in eighth place.

Roqueta finished two shots behind Fangmeyer for day two with a score of 155 as Saini finished with a 156, one shot behind Roqueta.

On day three, the Trojans climbed back up the leaderboard to finish the three-day invitational in second place. The final score of 906 put Troy three shots in front of third place Oakland and 28 shots behind Lipscomb in first.

It was another strong day for Fangmeyer, as she led the Trojans with 223 to finish in a tie for seventh. Mercado ended the invitational two shots short of Fangmeyer, with 225, which put her in a tie for 13th.

Saini had a final day too, finishing with 230, tied for 22nd. After Saini was Katelynn Altese finishing in 26th and Roqueta finishing  tied for 34th.

The Trojans next compete in the Spring Break Shootout, hosted by Western Kentucky in Florida. The invitational is a two-day event starting on Monday.
