The Troy women’s golf team finished their third match of the season tied for eighth after a rain-soaked Tuesday canceled round three.

After a long day one in Greenville, North Carolina, the Trojans finished round two of the match Tuesday morning before the third rain delay  canceled round three, making the scores after round two the finals.

Troy finished round one in a tie for sixth with Wofford College out of South Carolina, the two teams being 10 over par. The team score of 298 put The Trojans 11 strokes behind round leader High Point University.

It was junior Katelynn Altese and senior Alyssa Mercado who both led the way for Troy in a long round one that saw two separate rain delays. Both finished day one only two shots over par.

Behind them on day one was junior Victoria Stutts and sophomore Manya Saini, who both finished just three shots over par.

For round two, the Trojans put up a team score of 303 which was good enough to put them tied for ninth with the University of West Georgia in round two.

In a round that was split into two days because of weather, it was junior Laura Fangmeyer who led the Trojans, scoring two under par which was good enough to put her fifth for the round.

The next Trojans behind Fangmeyer was Stutts, who finished four shots over par, and Altese who finished five shots over.

Overall, the Trojans placed tied for eighth with Memphis in a field that saw 15 teams competing. The highest finishing Trojan was Fangmeyer, who finished five shots over par in a four-way tie for 23rd. Behind her was Altese and Stutts who both finished seven shots over par in an eight-way tie for 32nd.

The Troy women’s golf team returns to the course on Oct. 14 and 15 when the team travels to Jonesboro, Arkansas for the Lady Red Wolves Classic hosted by Arkansas State.
