Troy women’s golf had good rounds from junior Mayna Saini to begin the Sun Belt Tournament. Saini finished the day inside the top five individually.
Despite the Trojans sitting at 12th as a team, shooting 38 over, Saini shot one under after the first two rounds. A 4-under first round, the lone Troy round to finish under par this tournament, and a 3-over second round gave the junior a good shot at the individual lead.
Sophomore Mathilda Ringblom finished the first two rounds tied for 37th. After a disappointing 6-over in the first round, Ringblom improved in the second with 3-under, moving her up five spots on the individual leaderboards.
The largest jump for the Trojans came from freshman Constanza Quiroga. Despite shooting 8-over in the first round, Quiroga jumped six spots to sit tied for 44th after a 4-over second round.
Seniors Victoria Stutts and Laura Fangmeyer had good first rounds, shooting 7-over and 8-over, respectively. However, both would have disappointing second rounds, shooting 11-over and 14-over to drop in the individual standings.
Birdies have not been hard to find for the Trojans, as they have shot 19 in the first two rounds. Saini had eight, including six in the first round, while Ringblom had five in both rounds.
After the team was eliminated from the tournament following Wednesday’s third round, the spring season ends for Troy women’s golf.
