Trojans fail to make cut at conference tournament, season ends with one first-place finish in Hunstville

Thirteen Sun Belt Conference programs fought for the right to call themselves the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Champions. Attacking 54 holes over a three-day period, each team entered with the goal of being one of the final four teams remaining. The final four teams advanced to the finals.

Among the teams in the field were the country’s No. 33 Georgia Southern Eagles and the Troy Trojans, who entered with the eighth-best scoring average in the Sun Belt.

After taking their final swing, the Trojans placed sixth, totaling 892 strokes. Entering the final day of play, Troy was tied with ULM for a spot standing in the final four of the conference tournament. They failed to secure the spot after six bogeys and a double bogey, while tallying two birdies.

Georgia Southern eventually secured the conference win by defeating ULM alongside Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina. In terms of singles action, two Trojans placed in the top 25, with four placing overall.

Leading the Trojans and in a tie for eighth place was junior Victoria Stutts. Stutts led the team with 12 birdies throughout the course of the tournament. Her eighth-place finish marks her fourth top-10 finish of the year.

Laura Fangmeyer found herself in a tie for 21st place. Her birdie on the par-four 14th hole kept the Trojans in striking distance. In total, she cardedeight birdies.

The next Trojan on the scorecards was Alyssa Mercado, who was tied for 27th. The senior shot three over in her final round donning a Power T. In her first Sun Belt Conference tournament action, Mathilda Ringblom tied for 55th.

Although the Trojans didn’t bring home a conference championship, their season was filled with unforgettable moments. Of those is taking home first place in the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. They dominated a 12-team field containing the Samford Bulldogs, West Georgia Wolves and Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.

The Sun Belt Conference tournament marks the end of the Trojans 2024-25 campaign. Now, they will turn to the offseason to retool and prepare for the fall.
