After entering round three in fourth place at the Chris Bannister Golf Classic, the Troy women’s golf team faltered to finish eighth out of 16 teams. The Trojans squared off against Tennessee, Chattanooga and Jax State, among others.

Following a strong 304 team round on day two and carding a 310 to open play, the Trojans closed out the event with their worst round at 319. Heading into the final round, the Trojans led the field in birdies with 21.

Freshman Constanza Quiroga led the team, finishing in 17th place individually. She earned her third top 25 finish this season with two consecutive 1-over rounds to start the event in Gadsden, Alabama. She led the Trojans for the third time in seven events this year.

Laura Fangmeyer recovered from a 9-over round one to take second on the team and 35th overall. She shot 3-over and 6-over in the final two rounds to shoot up the leaderboard – her 78 in round three was Troy’s best score in the closing round.

Just behind Fangmeyer was Manya Saini, who closed round three at 7-over with a birdie on the 12th hole. Saini logged back-to-back 6-over rounds to start the event. Overall, Saini finished tied for 36th place, with her 253 just one stroke more than Fangmeyer.

Similarly to Saini, Victoria Stutts shot 78 in each of the first two rounds. However, she faltered with an 84 in round three to slip into a tie for 53rd place. Stutts did pick up a birdie on the 16th hole in the final round.

Rounding out Troy’s lineup in 68th place was Mathilda Ringblom, who finished with a 248. She bounced back from an 85 in the opening round to card an 81 and an 82 on the following two days. Ringblombirdied her first hole in the third round.

The women’s team gets back to work with a busy spring break, competing in the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas, on Mar. 16 and 17. Then, the Trojans trek to Tallahassee, Florida from Mar. 20 to 22 for the Seminole Match Up.
