Troy women’s golf competed at The “Mo” Morial, hosted by Texas A&M at the Traditions Club. The team earned eighth place out of 16 teams.
Competing in the 21st edition of the tournament, its name comes in memory of TAMU golfer Monica Welch, who tragically died in a car accident in 1992.
The team was led by Victoria Stutts, who placed 25th overall in the tournament. Alyssa Mercado had a strong day, as she climbed eight spots on the second day of the tournament to finish 30th.
Troy had strong showings on the par-3 holes, where its average score was 3.25. The only team better was No. 20 Texas A&M, who won the tournament.
The Trojans held their ground against fierce competition, including power conference schools like Baylor, Texas State, Texas A&M and others.
The eighth place finish marks the ninth time this season that Troy has earned a top ten finish. It has only failed to do so twice throughout the athletic year.
The team now prepares for postseason play, with the Sun Belt Championship taking place Apr. 14-16 at the Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Alabama.
