The transfer portal is playing a huge factor Troy women’s basketball’s roster for next season. There has been plenty of turnover throughout the few weeks since the season ended.
After a 24-14 record and WNIT runner-up finish, expectations remain high for the Chanda Rigby-coached team when the 2025-26 season comes around in November. The roster will look a bit different, though.
Two of the Trojans’ top performers last season, Briana Peguero and Shaulana Wagner, have both entered the transfer portal. Peguero was second on the team in points with 10.6 per game. She averaged 16.2 in postseason play, earning a spot on the WNIT All-Tournament Team.
Wagner had the most minutes of any player, with 9.0 points per game and a team-high 6.7 assists.
Peguero has already found her destination. She announced last Friday she would be heading to the Big 12 to play for the Houston Cougars. Last season, the Cougars struggled severely, going just 5-26 and finishing last in conference play. Peguero is one of multiple incoming transfers as the program looks to turn things around.
Shaulana Wagner remains in the portal and has not yet made an announcement of where she may go, or if she may choose to withdraw from the portal and return to Troy. Other Trojans who are looking for new destinations include Jamirica Robinson, Khila Morris and Adriana Jones.
While the Trojans do expect to lose some production with those losses, they have managed to bring a couple players in too. Shakirah Edwards of Mississippi State and Florida Atlantic’s Aniya Hubbard both have announced their plans to don the cardinal uniforms next season.
As a guard, Edwards averaged 15.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game as a senior at Rutherford High School in Panama City, Florida. She saw limited action with the Bulldogs her freshman season, scoring 12 points over her 11 appearances.
“Shakirah is a player we identified as a priority for us since early in her high school career,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “She is a creative scorer and can make difficult basketball plays look easy.
“I can’t wait for our Trojan fans to watch her play in Trojan Arena.”
Hubbard joins the team after sitting out of the 2024-25 season following a standout two years with FAU. Playing for the Owls, she averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
She was the 2022-23 Conference USA Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the C-USA All-Defensive Team.
“Aniyah raises our ceiling for how good we can be,” Coach Rigby said. “She is a skilled and powerful player who is a volume scorer.”
The Trojans have also confirmed the return of multiple notable players including Fortuna Ngnawo, Leilani Guion, Ashley Baez and last season’s leading scorer and rebounder Zay Dyer.
With a large portion of its roster still returning plus some new faces, the expectations certainly remain high for the Trojans. They will look to continue to reach new highs when the 2025-26 season comes around this winter.
