Virtual Career Fair set for April

The “All Majors Virtual Career Fair” will be held Wednesday, April 7, from 1-4 p.m. Before the career fair, students may preregister for specific employers’ sessions to secure a spot. The day of the career fair, students can log into their Handshake accounts and launch the fair from the homepage. Lauren Cole, the coordinator of Career Services, gave insight to what students can expect the day of the career fair. “Students can expect to interact with dozens of employers in both group sessions and individual 10-minute, one-on-one sessions,” Cole said. “Students should pre-register for these spots to ensure they can join the day of the fair.” Employers will provide contact information either at the end of the session or on their Handshake account. Students should prepare for the interview by drafting resumes and perfecting interviewing skills, according to Cole. Resumes templates can be found on Troy’s Career Services website and resumes may be mailed to troycareer@troy.edu for a review before the event. However, students should allow 48 for a response. Also through Troy’s Career Services website, students have access to the career service software called Big Interview and can practice their interview skills before the career fair. If students complete a resume review and a Big Interview session, the Career Service Center will issue a Career Services Merit Badge at the end of the semester. Cole said it’s important for all students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the virtual career fair. “Lowerclassmen are encouraged to take part in the career fair to line up internships and part-time experience, as well as have conversations with employers that will help solidify their career of choice,” Cole concluded. “Upperclassmen are encouraged to take part in the career fair as there will be limited opportunities such as this, where dozens of hiring employers are accessible right at their fingertips.” Employers from most Troy majors will be available and currently, there are employers such as: the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, American Red Cross, Auto-Owners Insurance, EMC Engineering Services, Enterprise Holdings, Hartwick College Biomedical Research Management Graduate Program, Lifeline Children’s Services, the Renaissance Hotel & Spa in Montgomery, Sherwin-Williams Company and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. It’s still early in the registration process, so employers will still be joining the fair through the beginning of April. Students can register by going to https://troy.joinhandshake.com.
