Troy University's Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) chapter held several events to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House and bring students and organizations together during its philanthropy week.

The sorority held spirit nights with local businesses, including Fuse Coffee, Daily Dose, The Market Boutique and Los Hermanos. A portion of the money spent during the events went toward the sorority’s philanthropy.

The sorority also held its Pop Top and Drop It event, which included a lip sync battle featuring different organizations and teams.

“Being able to bring different organizations and students together and being able to see what we do and how we raise money,” said Katherine James, a sophomore from Auburn, Alabama, with an undecided major.

Along with this, they held a competition to see which campus Greek organization could collect the most pop tabs.

“Pop tabs are super important for the Ronald McDonald House and ADPi,” said Layia Huff, a junior nursing major from Mobile, Alabama, and director of philanthropy. “The aluminum in the pop tabs gets recycled and they help with a free night stay and water and electricity bills in the house.”

Students can collect and donate pop tabs year-round. All collections will help support the Ronald McDonald House in Mobile, Alabama.

The Ronald McDonald House provides support for families whose children need medical care, helping ease some of the financial burden of being away from home.

For some members, philanthropy has a personal connection.

“I was born very premature, and I did spend some time in the Ronald McDonald House,” said N’Zharia Bussey, a sophomore from Eufaula majoring in nursing. “They helped me and my family a lot.”

“It's nice to know that I am able to give back and help those that are now in the position that I was in,” Bussey said.

Through its events and pop tab collection, Alpha Delta Pi continues to support families served by the Ronald McDonald House while encouraging students across campus to participate.

Students interested in donating pop tabs can deliver them to an ADPi sister, or the sorority house. For more information follow ADPi at @troyadpi on Instagram.
