University transportation app launches

Transportation app TripShot drives for more accessible transport on campus.

Students can now better navigate the university’s bus transportation system through an app called TripShot that launched on Feb. 9.

This development comes after the university transportation services noticed there was no way for students to conveniently track real-time bus locations and transportation routes. Students often had to call transportation services for exact bus locations.

While bus routes and service times are provided on the university website, it was difficult for students to know exactly when buses would arrive at their designated location.

“Just being able to look on there and see where the bus is gives students that reassurance that the bus is on the way,” said Cole Curtis, the university’s transportation supervisor.

Before the launch of the TripShot app, students were unable to accurately track the location of university buses and would have to roughly guess the exact arrival of their transportation.

“It would be more convenient for me especially on cold or rainy days,” said Khai Luu, a general management major from Vietnam. “[Now] I can just stay inside my place and come out when the ride is approaching.

“I would recommend this app for whoever is using the buses as a daily commute due to the ability to track the ride in real time.”

With bus drivers unable to answer phone calls and an influx of phone calls through transportation services, TripShot will allow all students to receive assistance to locate buses, nearby stops, view routes and plan trips.

“I think an app like this is long overdue and is very beneficial to us as students with no way of transportation,” said Avery Broussard, a freshman sports management major from Atlanta, Georgia.

To get started, students can download the TripShot app, enter “Troy University” in the service name bar, select next, log in with Troy SSO and enter their student email and password.

The app is completely free, and students can set up notifications and give the app permission to track their location for usage.
