Staff Report As Higher Ed Day, the annual student lobbying trip to the capitol, approaches, SGA president Will Thompson and members of the Governmental Affairs Council are already speaking for student interests. Tuesday morning, several select members of the council gathered in the Alabama statehouse to meet with local delegates and with speaker of the house Mike Hubbard. According to Thompson, the council conversed with lawmakers on the two percent funding increase higher education has received from last year and the importance of maintaining that growth. The council is also in charge of making preparations for Higher Ed Day. Higher Ed Day is an annual rally held in Montgomery by college students from across the state to push lawmakers for greater funding allocations to institutions of higher education. According to Thompson, Troy has arranged for five buses to drive students to Montgomery, two of which will be charter buses and the other three Troy University 30-seat buses. Transportation and attendance are free, and a complimentary meal is provided, as well. Interested students are advised to sign up with council member Amber Voss via her email: avoss100851@troy.edu.
