After a five year suspension, Delta Chi resurges on Troy's campus

Troy University welcomed Delta Chi back to the Interfraternity Council this spring. This comes after the fraternity’s five-year hiatus due to its suspension for reports of hazing in 2021, but now, Delta Chi is backand excited for a fresh start.

The news of Delta Chi’s return first came in November 2025 in the form of an announcement on the national organization's website. This was followed by a post from the Troy Delta Chi chapter on Facebook.

The Troy chapter was originally founded in 1966 by a group called the Magnificent Seven and has seen hundreds of members initiated since then.

John Ferguson, a proud Delta Chi alumnus and a longtime member of Delta Chi’s alumni association, was overjoyed to learn that Delta Chi was finally coming back to Troy.

“News from the university that Delta Chi would return in the spring was music to our ears,” Ferguson said. “The honor to once again have the right to be a leading part of the university we love brought tears to more than one of our brother's eyes.”

In February, Delta Chi welcomed in nine new associate members at their first chapter meeting, along with their president, Garry Peoples. The fraternity is currently keeping a low profile, depending mostly on social media to spread information and keep followers up to date.

Delta Chi was originally founded as a legal fraternity, and according to Ferguson, its core mission still aligns with those values. According to Delta Chi’s national site, they are focused on friendship, character, justice and education.

It also has a long history of supporting their philanthropy, The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Ferguson ended his interview by talking about the lasting value of being involved in a fraternity and the benefits he has seen.

“Troy University and Delta Chi absolutely changed my life forever,” Ferguson said.“They both gave me the foundation to build whatever I had the aptitude and attitude to become.”

Ferguson also hopes the new chapter of Delta Chi keeps in line with what he thinks of as the “honor” of being allowed to return to the Troy Interfraternity Council.

The current membership of Delta Chi is not taking interviews at this time and declined to comment.
