The Trojans women’s tennis team earned one victory and one loss this past weekend. The Trojans competed in matches against Appalachian State and Marshall. The matches were held at the Trojans Lunsford sports complex where they have a 5-4 record for the 2022-23 season.

The Trojans started the weekend off on Saturday morning playing against App State, entering the weekend with two-match winning streak for the season.

The morning started with Troy in the lead after earning the doubles point. Court one consisted of Andrea Widing and Valeriia Avdeeva  effortlessly winning their sets as one of the doubles teams.

On court three, Kristina Kukaras and Franziska Ahrend supplied the Trojans with a win as well after winning their sets. Despite these obstacles, App State came back and scored their first point tying the teams 1-1.

Maria Guirguis was able to successfully win both of her sets as a single; 6-3,6-4. With Guirguis’ help, the Trojans took the lead back 2-1.

The last two singles matches held the fate of the Trojans in their hands and were not able to secure the victory.

Kukaras had the pressure on her shoulders and fell in her second and third sets, allowing App State to take the lead. App State won the match 4-3 adding another win to its streak for the season.

Sunday, the Trojans went up against Marshall at Lunsford Sports complex as well. Marshall had lost its game the previous week and was eager to beat the Trojans.

The Trojans used its home-court advantage and put it to the test against Marshall. Court one and four both had singles victories as Guirguis and Kukaras were phenomenal.

Marshall had the score tied 2-2 until Avdeeva gave the Trojans another win, leaving the score 3-2.

Olivia Elliot was on fire during her final set and took the win, allowing the Trojans to win the match 4-2 against Marshall.

The Troy women’s tennis team will be facing Georgia State this upcoming week at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy.
