Track starts outdoor season

Troy’s track and field team went to Tallahassee, Florida, on Thursday and Friday to compete in the Terry Long FSU Relays. The Trojans showed out during the meet, earning numerous top-three finishes and a few personal bests along the way.
First, going over the podium finishes, the Trojans brought in many first-place finishes throughout the meet. Faith Jones ran 13.66 during the women’s 100m Hurdles event, setting her personal best twice in a row this outdoor season.
Aaliyah Murphy broke the program record for the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 59.17. Murphy was the only person to run under a minute during the event.
Women’s relay teams also earned first place throughout the meet. Lucy May Sleeman, Oludoyin Soremi, Liana Tyson and Micayah Holland earned the victory during the 4x100m with a time of 44.09. Rachel Whyte, Haley Wilson, Jasmine Jimenez andAaliyah Murphy earned first place during the women’s 4x400m with a time of 3:41.99.
Ethan Forbes earned the Trojans a victory during the men’s 800m with a time of 1:50.21, while Jonas Koturenka was half a second behind with a time of 1:50.74, earning second place and a personal best in the process.
Makenna Calbert grabbed a second-place finish during the women’s 5000m event with a time of 18:25.23. Rachel Whyte and Jasmine Jimenez both had top-three finishes in the women’s 400m, blazing through with a second-place finish at 54.99 and a third-place finish at 57.25, respectively.
The men’s 4x400 team of Jasai Taylor, Dawson Isbell, Ethan Forbesand Devyn Pearman earned a third-place finish with a time of 3:11.64 during their event, with Lane Watson having a third-place finish as well, running a 15:21.54 during the men’s 5000m.
Lane Watson and Kavon Hill grabbed third place in their respective events, with Hill leaping to 14.41m during the men’s triple jump event and Malik Humphrey jumping 7.34m during the men’s long jump event.
During the men’s 400m event, Romario Taylor, Devin Pearman and Dawson Isbell earned fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively, with times of 48.62, 49.02 and 49.24. Travis Massey ran a 10.54 during the men’s 100m event, earning sixth place.
Haley Wilson earned seventh place in the women’s 800m event, being the highest-placing non-FSU student that competed.
The Trojans will compete at home on Apr. 3 and 4 at the Doc Anderson Multi & Invitational, located at the Troy Soccer Complex.
