Track competes at Penn Relays

Troy’s track and field team dashed to Philadelphia to compete in the Penn Relays starting last Thursday. The meet had teams from around the nation, with Troy being the sole representative of Alabama.
Starting off, Aaliyah Murphy broke her own school record again during the women’s 400m hurdles , blazing through with a time of 58.71. Murphy has now broken the record for the event twice this season and once last season.
On the relay side, Kasahn Rivers, Josh Kalozi, Milos Nisic, Dawson Isbell won second place in the men’s 4x200m relay with a time of 1:24.57. The Trojans also raced to fifth place during the sprint melody, where Tydreke Thomas, Kasahn Rivers, Devyn Pearman and Jonas Koturenka ran a time of 3:21.57.
Shanayah Washington finished fourth in the final round of the women’s 100m with a time of 11.98. Beforehand, Washington ran 11.57 during the prelims.
On the field, Tayjo Oppong continues showing his discus prowess by throwing 53.58m, securing second place in the process. Malik Humphrey leaped 7.27m during the men’s long jump, which earned him third place.
Looking forward, the Trojans have a stacked season ahead of them. First, they’re going to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete in the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt. The meet will be May 1-2. The Trojans then go to Mobile, Alabama, after that, competing in the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships from May 14-16.
During the summer, Troy hopes to go to Lexington, Kentucky, and Eugene, Oregon, as part of two NCAA events as well. The NCAA East Region First Round will be from May 27-30, and the NCAA Championships will be from June 10-13.
Throughout the season thus far, the Trojans have beaten numerous personal, season and program records, as well as having top finishes during numerous events. As the season draws to a close, Troy will look to represent the school and the Sun Belt on a national stage.
