South Alabama thwarts Troy

Troy fell to in-state rival, South Alabama, Friday night, Oct. 24, by a score of 27-13.

The Trojans hurt themselves on the field with 10 penalties for a total of 100 yards and they only converted on four of 15 third down conversions.

South Alabama scored on its first two drives and went up early 10-0 on Troy.

The second quarter was a different story for the Trojans. They held the Jaguars to only 20 yards on offense and did not allow them to convert on a single third down conversion.

However, Troy lost its spark in the second half and allowed South Alabama to dominate for the rest of the game.

In the third quarter, the Jaguars ran all over the Trojans; they gained 137 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns to take a bigger lead of 24-6.

Troy struggled to in the passing game all night as redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon Silvers only had 62 passing yards on nine completions out of 18 attempts.

Troy found a little bit of offensive chemistry in the fourth quarter, but it was too late to come back from the 24-6 deficit.

The Trojans finally scored their first touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter with one minute left in the game on an eight-yard pass from junior quarterback Dontreal Pruitt to senior wide receiver B.J. Chitty.

The final score between the rival teams was 27-13.
