The Troy softball team played its last Sun Belt series against Texas State over the weekend before the Bobcats move to the Pac 12. The Trojans got swept with 11-7, 5-0 and 2-1 losses.

However,  Troy also tacked on a few more in the win column, with a midweek matchup against West Georgia that ended up with two Troy wins.

Esmee Ames stepped into the circle and held West Georgia scoreless across seven innings. Megan Loftis and her bat loaded the bases for Troy, and Kalee Rochinski scored off a wild pitch.

Ames continued shutting the Wolves down, and Loftis hit a single through the left side to make it 2-0 Trojans. West Georgia would put pressure on throughout the game, but Ames and the defensestifled them and kept the game at 2-0 Trojans.

In game two, back-to-back-to-back singles in the first got it started offensively for Troy, and Presley Ivey hit a sac-fly to make it 2-0. It was all quiet on the field until the fifth, when West Georgia tied it up, but soon after Makaley Boswell bounced a two-RBI groundout to make it 4-2 Trojans.

Lydia Kirby smacked a single down the line, and Kam Munson followed it up with a shot to center to make it 6-2. West Georgia scored two more, but by that point, it was 6-4 and a win for Troy.

“I don’t think we played our best, especially offensively, but to get two wins here on a Wednesday night as we prepare for Texas State is good,” said head coach Eric Newell.

Texas State came down to Troy towards the upper half of the Sun Belt standings. Game one was high-scoring, with an 11-7 final score, but a four-run inning from Texas State would prevent a Troy comeback and swamped the Trojans.

Troy took an early 7-2 lead after four errors from the Bobcats, and Boswell bashed a two-run shot to left field. However, the Trojans ran out of steam as conference preseason player of the year Aiyana Coleman, and the Texas State offense, piled nine runs towards the end of the game.

In game two Saturday, the Trojans struggled and couldn’t get on the board in a 5-0 loss. Making her first career Sun Belt start, Ames carried her momentum from Wednesday into five shutout innings over Texas State. While the Bobcats scored three in the sixth inning, she finished her day with six punchouts in a solid performance.

Game three was a duel on the field -- Mya Holt stepped into the circle for four one-run innings out of the bullpen and recorded the only RBI of the day. Texas State’s pitching staff shut down the Troy offense again, however.

The next Sun Belt series for the Trojans will be on ESPN+ when they take on the Georgia Southern Eagles on the road in Statesboro, Georgia. The Troy softball team played its last Sun Belt series against Texas State over the weekend before the Bobcats move to the Pac 12.
