Central Michigan transfer tallies five hits on Sunday
The baseball series finale of the Troy Trojans and Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on April 19, 2026, was a historic night for many reasons. Much of the attention will go to the walk-off grand slam hit by Jimmy Janicki as deserved, but Aaron Piasecki had a career night as well, with five hits and four runs scored.
“I’m glad I can be up there,” Piasecki said. “I’m blessed for the opportunity that I have.”
Piasecki started the day off hot on Sunday with a leadoff homer that was sent 419 feet out to right field, which was the first of 15 runs scored by the Trojans on the day. He then singled in the second, fifth, seventh and ninth innings against the Ragin’ Cajuns, scoring after reaching base in all but the second inning.
While having two RBIs on the day, Piasecki scored the go-ahead runs in the seventh and ninth innings. The senior set game highs for Troy on the season with his five hits and four runs scored.
Piasecki has thrived in the leadoff spot this season, leading the team in walks and hit-by-pitches at 28 and 13 respectively, which results in him leading the team with an on-base percentage of .476.
Piasecki is not only an on-base machine but is near the top of the team ranks in almost every offensive statistic. “AP” ranks second with an OPS of 1.023, runs scored with 35, hits with 50, triples with two, homers with six, total bases with 81, slugging percentage with .547 and stolen bases with six.
This is not something unexpected, as the lefty bat was selected as a Perfect Game Preseason All-Sun Belt Team and Brooks Wallace Award Watch List member. The Brooks Wallace Award is presented to the nation’s top shortstop in college baseball each year.
The outfielder was a problem for opposing pitchers all week, totaling 10 hits and reaching base six other times, with eight runs scored and five batted in. The speed threat was also present with two triplesand a stolen base this week.
“We’ve got a bunch of fight… everyone trusts each other in the lineup,” Piasecki said. “Everyone has each other’s back, and today it worked out really well.”
This fight was seen all week, with the Trojans also making a comeback in the first game against Louisiana to win 7-6.
Piasecki earned a hit in every game throughout the week, starting with the road trip to New Orleans on April 13, where he had two singles, two walks and three runs scored in the one-run loss. He also had two hits in the series opener versus Louisiana on Friday.
However, one of thesehits was an eventual game-winning triple in the sixth inning with two outs to right-center field that knocked in two runs, making the score 7-6.
The very next day, the leadoff hitter had another RBI triple to go along with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. However, the Trojans would fall to the team from Louisiana by one run for Troy’s second one-run loss of the week.
After winning an incredibly emotional conference series this weekend, Troy is now tied for third in the conference's baseball standings. Piasecki and the Trojans look forward to facing an in-state rival in Jacksonville State at home for the midweek before heading to Huntington, West Virginia, to face Marshall over the weekend.
