Troy women’s basketball team moved to 13-3 following back-to-back wins with the help of Fortuna Ngnawo. In the process, Ngnawo picked up her seventh and eighth double-doubles on the season. In addition to her eighth double-double, the Trojans toppled the team who ended their conference championship push last season.
Against Arkansas State, the Cameroon native earned her 18th double-figure scoring performance in the last 19 games. She led all scorers with 21 points while grabbing 10 boards – tying teammate Zay Dyer for the most double-doubles in the Sun Belt Conference. Along with her double-double, Ngnawoposted her third 20-point scoring performance – her season high of 22 points came against Southern Miss.
“I just feel like with both of us leading the conference we are unstoppable – I’m actually happy to be in a friendly competition with my teammate,” Ngnawo said.
Her stellar week began when the Trojans toppled the Bobcats of Texas State. The forward secured 10 rebounds to go along with 11 points in an 84-49 win. On the defensive end, she set a new season high in steals with four.
This season she has proven to be a consistent force. Ngnawo leads the team in both points and points per game – 246 and 15.4 ppg respectively. She also leads the team in steals with 22.
Her total of 154 rebounds, 100 defensive and 54 offensive, are all second on the team – her average of 9.6 rebounds per game is also second on the team. She’s also second on the team in blocks with 18.
Ngnawo’s efficiency is also noteworthy, as she built her team lead in points on just 94 made field goals.
With Ngnawo’s play, Troy has moved to 4-1 in conference play. Since conference play began, Ngnawo has snagged 17 rebounds on two separate occasions. She has four double-double performances while leading the conference in both offensive and defensive rebounds per conference game – 5.4 offensive boards to go along with 7.4 on the defensive end.
Ngnawo will lead the Trojans back into action on Wednesday, Jan. 14 with a 6:30 p.m. tip. The Trojans will matchup with the ULM Warhawks for the first time this season. Last season, the teams split the series with each team successfully defending their home court.
