The Troy men’s tennis team swept Coastal Carolina in 4-0 dominant home victory, allowing the Trojans to finish the year out strong with a 12-1 home record  this season.

The Trojans cruised through the doubles matches collecting a 6-1 victory on court one from Nicolas Simkin and Benjamin Ambrosio while Mario Martinez Serrano and Luciano Alcocer improved to 14-1 on the year with a 6-2 final on court three.

The Trojans’ dominance continued in singles as Alcocer delivered a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court six to record his 11th victory of the season. The freshman from Mexico will conclude his solid regular season with an 11-4 record in singles.

Sophomore Yeray Andres Pastor routed his opponent 6-0, 6-1 on court four to build on the early Trojan lead. Pastor is now 17-4 on the year and 4-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Martinez slammed the door by quickly dismantling his opponent 6-0, 6-4 on court one. Martinez’s regular season record now sits at a remarkable 23-2 as Troy heads into Sun Belt Conference Tournament play.

Troy finishes the regular season with a 4-4 conference record and a conference-best 19 wins, which secured them a six-seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Rome, Georgia.

Troy will face off against Georgia State at 2 p.m. in the first round of the tournament on Friday, April 19. The Trojans’ previous matchup with the Panthers resulted in a 4-2 loss and also marked one of only two times the Trojans won the doubles point but failed to win the match.

The Trojans will look to make a deep playoff run behind the excellent and consistent play of Martinez and their doubles teams.
