After a disappointing finish to the 2024 spring season, the Trojans are looking to start the fall season off strong at the Argent Financial Classic in Ruston, Louisiana. Louisiana Tech serves as a host for the event, and 17 teams will be competing in the three-day event at the Squire Creek Country Club.

Seniors Jake Springer and Brantley Scott headline Troy’s team after an impressive offseason. The pair of Trojans qualified for the 118th Southern Amateur Championship after finishing first and second respectively in the qualifier. Springer missed the cut after shooting two under par, and Scott shot five under par to finish tied for 35th.

Scott was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team in 2023 after qualifying for an NCAA Regional as an individual. The senior from Dothan, Alabama, finished fourth on the team last season with a 73.79 stroke average.

Springer led the Trojans in 2023 with a 72.70 stroke average, three top-10 finishes and six top-25 finishes. The senior from Tallahassee, Florida has appeared in all of Troy’s tournaments since 2021.

Sophomore Lee Poppell also appeared in the Southern Amateur Championship over the offseason. Although the tournament didn’t go as planned for the youngster, it served as good experience and showed Poppell has the talent and potential to play with some of the best. As a true freshman, Poppell finished sixth on the team with a 74.50 stroke average and finished in the top 10 once out of his six tournaments.

Another name to watch is Pablo Gracia. The sophomore from Logrono, Spain finished second on the team with an even 73 stroke average and had five top-25 finishes in the nine tournaments he played.

The Trojans are slated to face off against regional foes Louisiana, Middle Tennessee, Nicholls State and Louisiana Tech.
