After a rough first round, Troy men's golf found a second wind and jumped seven spots to finish sixth in the Mossy Oak Collegiate.
The Trojans did not shoot well in round one, with no Trojans hitting under or at par. However, in round two, Troy's Thomas Crane, Lee Poppell and Pablo Gracia all shot under to launch Troy back up the scorecard.
While Troy was unable to pass anybody in round three, the Trojans held their sixth-place spot, which allowed them to pass South Alabama to finish first of the four Sun Belt teams in the field. The sixth-place finish marks the fourth straight tournament where Troy finished in the top half of teams.
Leading the Trojans was Crane who, after shooting 6-over on his first round, found a rhythm in round two to shoot 6-under. A par third round would tie him for 18th place on the individual leaderboard, with a fourth-place spot in birdies on the week with 14.
Poppell and Gracia both shot 1-over overall, tied for 23rd individually. Both shot 71 in round two after shooting 2-over and 3-over respectively in round one, and Gracia would shoot par in the third round while Poppell shot 1-over.
Haston Emblom finished tied for 89th, while his brother Lawton Emblom finished tied for 93rd. Both were unable to shoot under par on the week.
The Mossy Oak performance concludes a regular season that was filled with highs and lows. After failing to finish no better than ninth in the season’s first six tournaments, the Trojans have finished no worse than eighth and, more impressively, finished in the top half of teams in their last four tournaments.
Troy will need to keep the momentum going as they head to Madison, Mississippi, to compete in the Sun Belt Championship. Troy hopes to build off last year's success as it finished fourth at the Annandale Golf Club, which was good enough to earn the Trojans an NCAA Tournament bid.
