Men’s and women’s tennis teams both split matches

The Troy Trojans men’s and women’s tennis team both split matches on Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3.

 

The women’s team lost its first matchup against Georgia State in Atlanta, on April 2, and picked up only two wins.

 

Junior Trang Huynh won her ninth straight singles match 7-5, 6-2 against senior Masa Grgan.

 

Junior Anja Cosovic and freshman Sanae Ohta won line three doubles against freshman Veronika Golanova and Grgan, 8-5.

 

The women’s team won its next matchup 5-2 against Appalachian State in Atlanta, on April 3.

 

Huynh won her line one singles match 6-2, 6-2 against junior Clare Cox.

 

Ohta played line three doubles and defeated junior Mackenzie LaSure 6-0, 6-3.

 

Freshman Jiayuan Xue won her match 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 against junior Brianna Armellino.

 

Freshman Linnea Skymberg won her line six singles match against sophomore McKayla Zupan 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.

 

Huynh and Xue won line one doubles 8-3 against Cox and LaSure.

 

Ohta and Cosovic won 8-7 against sophomore Gabrielle Wreder and Zupan.

 

On Friday, April 3, Troy’s men’s team 10-game winning streak was snapped in its matchup against UCF in Orlando, Florida. Troy scraped out only two match wins.

 

Junior Gabriel Dias and freshman Andy Lau won line two doubles against redshirt senior Francesc Aulina and freshman Tyler Pate 6-4.

 

Sophomores Hassan Ndayishimye and Andre Baldo won line three doubles against sophomores Mariano Porter and Jesse Flores 6-2.

 

However, the men’s team rebounded and won its next matchup against Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, on Friday as well.

 

Ndayishimye won his line two singles match against sophomore Patrick Sell 6-0, 6-1.

 

Junior Giovani Samaha won his match at line five singles against redshirt junior Keegan Burger 6-2, 6-1.

 

Freshman Cyprian Owczarz won 6-2, 6-4 against freshman Mike Santa Lucia.

 

Sophomore Pablo Moreno and Samaha won line one doubles 8-3, against sophomore Anton Bettink and junior Robin Marchione.

 

Dias and Lau won line two doubles against senior Malte Christesen and redshirt junior Henning Ander 8-2.

 

Ndayishimye and Baldo won line three double 8-2 against Sell and senior Jacobo Herrero.

 

The men’s tennis team takes on North Florida next on Thursday, April 9, in Jacksonville, Florida.

 

The women’s tennis team will play Samford next on Wednesday, April 8, at home.
